As summer and recruitment wrap up, we look forward to another exciting year here at the Sig Ep house. The chapter is in top shape – we just accepted a new member class of 54 outstanding young men from across the state and country, putting our total member count just above 180.  We have consistently outperformed every fraternity of remotely comparable size as well as campus-wide metrics in academics over the last several semesters, most recently having earned a 3.33 GPA for the Spring 2016 semester.

Of course, we are still thriving socially and athletically as well. The usual fall tailgate and party line up will get going at the beginning of the semester, and is sure to be yet another great time. We’ve also recently won an intramural basketball championship, and one of our new members (Matthew Merrick, ’19) is a quarterback for the football team.

As always, members of the Texas Alpha chapter have earned leadership roles across several of the most prominent organization’s on UT’s campus, from academic organizations in McCombs and Cockrell to university-wide clubs and philanthropic organizations.  Members will be participating in a number of philanthropic endeavors this upcoming year, and we will also have our usual new member fundraising effort that will raise several thousand dollars to donate to charity.

We here at the chapter are well aware and very thankful that the chapter’s existence is dependent on participation from our dedicated alum, and we hope to see y’all at tailgates this fall. Our tailgate for the Notre Dame game will be held at the house with Flatland Cavalry performing, and our Founder’s Day tailgate will be held on campus before the Baylor game. We will also be hosting tailgates for every other home game at the house.

Finally, as the year goes on, please let myself  (or any active) know of any job or internship opportunities that you may be able to provide to undergraduates. We have continued to extend bids to only the most high-achieving men on campus, and we have several brothers that would love to work with alum. On this front, we have paired with a member of UT faculty named Daniel Liu, who was a Sig Ep at TCU, as a career search mentor. We look forward to seeing all of y’all at tailgates this fall!
